Home pregnancy gender test

Recent discovery in science has proven that there is fetal DNA in a mother's blood as soon as six weeks into her pregnancy. This home test kit is able to determined the sex of the baby from 6 weeks after conception. A small painless finger prick is taken and the blood spot is sent in a prepaid envelope to the laboratory, which is a male free zone. If DNA from a Y-chromosome is detected, dna worldwide can confidently determine the mother will have a baby boy. If there is no DNA from a Y-chromosome, they can determine with equal confidence that the mother will have a girl. The mother will find out the gender of their baby within 6 days for the standard test or 4 days with the express test. The test costs £189.95 at the time of writing.

Male and Female fertility test

Fertell has been developed as the first step to help a couple find out about potential female and male fertility issues, allowing them to get the help sooner if they need it. A key indicator of sperm quality is the concentration of motile sperm (sperm that can swim well). The Fertell male fertility test gives a measure of sperm motility. This is the first and only test for male fertility that uses the same measures as the doctors use. The Fertell female ovarian reserve test detects a different hormone called Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). Women are born with their quota of eggs. As a woman ages so do her eggs and the quality of those eggs decline. The ovarian reserve test detects when the FSH is at a level that indicates that the egg quality has decreased and the chances of the egg being fertilised are reduced.

The test kits are availble from Boots and online at Fertell fertility tests

Glasses that improve your hearing

Most people are now aware of the various types of hearing aid that can be worn in or on the ear to help combat hearing loss but now there is another solution available that requires nothing to be worn in either ear! Bone conduction "Spectacle Aids" are worn just like normal glasses but work just like a hearing aid. The device works by having a pad fitted on the inside of the spectacle arm which then sits comfortably behind the ear, resting on the mastoid bone (the bone behind your ear). It then picks up sound vibrations and transmits them to the inner ear allowing you to hear the amplified sound.

Bowel Health Test

Cancer of the bowel is the third most common cancer in the UK. Everyone above the age of 40 should have an annual fecal blood test. With this home test a sample of the stool (faeces) is taken with a stick and inserted into a tube that is pre-filled with a buffer solution. A drop of this mixture is then placed on the test cassette to see if there is any blood present. The indicator window shows two purple lines if it's positive and one if it's negative. This test can be performed quickly at any time of day at each bowel movement. No dietary restrictions are necessary before performing the test. The test is available from pharmacies including Superdrug.

Treatment for Dry Eyes

Dry eye makes itself felt as a sensation of burning or dryness. The eyes feel warm, dry and tired, and sometimes people get a gritty feeling. Often suffers are over-sensitive to bright light. The eye is protected and lubricated by a thin film of tears, which is protected from evaporation by an oily lipid layer secreted by glands on your eyelids. It is when the tear film becomes reduced and unstable that dry eye symptoms occur. Clarymist can be sprayed onto closed eyes, which makes it particularly ideal for people who find drops inconvenient or uncomfortable. It promises to give fast, effective comfort to dry eye sufferers. It can be used to treat up to two nails. Now there is no need for a doctor's appointment. Fungal nail infections affect around 1 million people, this makes it the most common nail complaint in the UK.

It is available from Boots, Superdrug, Lloyds and independent pharmacies nationwide and the recommended retail price is £18.61 for 3ml or go to Curanail online
