Smokers have a new option for cessation that takes a new approach beyond the traditional nicotine treatment. Champix is a simple tablet taken daily that reduces the adverse effects of halting nicotine intake to the body. It works in two ways; first, the drug mimics the effects of nicotine in the body (not the brain) making withdrawal symptoms minimal.

Second, Champix block the effects of nicotine to the brain. Therefore, satisfaction cannot be yielded from smoking. This pair of functions Champix provides has proven to be quite effective. Interestingly, to begin the drug the patient remains smoking for 7-10 days. At that point, the nicotine stops affecting the brain, and cigarettes lose their pleasure. In essence the patient is prepared to quit!

Champix is not available over the counter, so contact your GP for more information.
