New survey by Beechams shows that the cold wont stop us working (and playing) hard.

On the go Brits don't stop for colds

The people who make New Beechams All in One Liquid Pocket Packs have commissioned a study into the work habits of the British when faced with a cold.

For those of you familiar with the UK's working culture it will come as no surprise to discover that 55% of people continue to go into work even if they are still suffering from the effects of a cold.

The study also reveals that only a miniscule 7% of people always stay in bed to recover. The nation continues to live by its motto of "work-hard, play hard", over a third of the under 30s (34%) now state work demands as the number one reason for not recovering properly when they are ill; with the majority of Brits (63%) relying on over the counter medication to help them cope with their cold symptoms.

Surprisingly, London isn't home to the biggest workaholics; only 30% felt that their job was too demanding for them to stay in and rest. The biggest suffering workaholics are in North Scotland with 68% opting to continue to work when they are ill, compared to 47% in the South West.

49 per cent of men and 91 per cent of women have the perception that women are the more resilient sex when it comes to dealing with the symptoms of a cold. However, this study suggests that actually more men than women go into work when they are sick (58 per cent of men vs 53 per cent of women).

The clever people at Beechams have therefore designed a new form of their cold remedy - All in One Liquid Pocket Packs which can be taken without the need to add water or other liquids, so you can get relief from your symptoms during the presentation of those all important 3rd quarter North East region sales figures...

Although this is a bit of light hearted fun, the figures are based on a sample of nearly 2,000 adults, so they are not to be sneezed at!

Dr Chris says
If you are suffering from a cold, then you should definitely pay attention to your symptoms. Ideally you should rest and stay in bed or at least at home until you are better. Of course nowadays we don't always have that luxury, so if you do need to be active, my advice is:

Get an early night - get as much rest as you can.
Drink plenty of fluids.
Take a cold remedy to alleviate your symptoms, such as runny nose or headache.
