New supplement to help cystitis sufferers
Only if you've had cystitis can you appreciate the pain, discomfort and inconvenience it brings. Although there are two forms of cystitis, the most common is a bacterial infection, which will generally be treated with antibiotics by your GP. This will be successful in many cases, but there are those who seem to get recurrent bouts that in the end may become resistant to antibiotics.Canadian supplement manufacturer AOR has just launched a new product in the UK, which is designed to maintain urinary tract health. Called AOR D-Mannose, it is the concentrated form of a natural carbohydrate, which is already present in small quantities in the bladder. It is believed to protect healthy cells from bacterial attack and it is thought that some urinary tract infections (UTIs) are caused when the body's own D-Mannose levels are too low. Its method of action is simplicity itself. The bacteria is naturally attracted to the D-Mannose and binds to it instead of to healthy cells allowing it to be flushed out of the body with the urine. Supplementing with D-Mannose significantly increases the amount of this "natural decoy" passing through the bladder and urinary tract, collecting harmful bacteria along its way. Another benefit is that D-Mannose does not remove or destroy the good bacteria present.
AOR D-Mannose is a natural sugar derived from the spruce tree. A pack of 30 easy to swallow tablets costs £12.99 (r.r.p.) and is available at leading independent health food stores, by mail order from AOR (0845 225 7455) and on-line at www.supplementsplus.co.uk
