Meningitis Arc – alerting you to a killer disease
Despite killing more under fives than any other infectious disease, a recent survey by the Meningitis Trust revealed that half of all parents surveyed couldn’t name three signs and symptoms of meningitis. The new Meningitis Arc is an early alert meningitis kit designed to help people identify the symptoms of meningitis as quickly as possible and, crucially, act on them.
The Arc consists of a piece of clear, curved plastic which can be used in place of a tumbler to assess whether a rash does not blanch (disappear under pressure) in the well known "tumbler test". What the Arc offers that a glass tumbler doesn't is a reproduction of what the rash may look like and, in addition, a list of other symptoms. Together this makes for a powerful diagnostic aid that can be kept in the bathroom cabinet and accessed whenever needed by all the family.
The kit also includes a leaflet with additional information on meningitis and septicaemia along with details of NHS direct and the Meningitis Trust so that users have somewhere to turn to in an emergency if their GP is unavailable.
Priced at £9.99 the Meningitis Arc is available in Boots stores nationwide and also online at www.meningitisalert.co.uk
