Just being active is not enough to protect against heart disease.

Can you be fat and fit - research suggests no.

An 11 year study in the US of over 40,000 women found that those that were overweight yet active were still 50% more likely to suffer from heart disease than those of normal weight who exercised.

The researchers, from The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in Boston, concluded: 'Even high quantities of physical activity are unlikely to fully reverse the risk of coronary heart disease in overweight and obese women without concurrent weight loss.'
