Just because we don't have teeth that practically glow in the dark (unlike some across the Atlantic), doesn't mean British teeth are that bad, does it?

Last year an American journalist complimented Ricky Gervais on his lack of vanity - because he was prepared to wear unflattering teeth for a film shoot - only to discover that they were the actor's own.

An album containing photographs of "British Teeth" has even featured on The Simpsons as an example of what can happen if you don't look after your pearly whites.

So, when was the last time you bought a new toothbrush, went for a check up or so much as flossed?

We may pride ourselves on not obsessing about our teeth, but having swollen gums, poor teeth and bad breath is not just about vanity. The health of your mouth is often an overall reflection of what's happening in your body and so should never be neglected.
