Ear Buddies - A new treatment for ear deformities
A new ear splintage device to correct ear deformities in newborns, designed by leading plastic surgeon and world renowned expert on ear reconstruction David Gault, has been given the backing of top medical industry organisations including the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), BUPA, ENT-UK and Great Ormond Street Hospital.Ear Buddies kits contain silicone splints designed to correct problems such as 'bat ears' or Stahl's ear (spock-type ears), and prevent the need for ear surgery in later years.
David Gault developed Ear BuddiesTM splints when his children were born with deformed ears. The splints should be used as soon as the prominence or deformed ears become noticeable. They should also be considered even if the ears aren't sticking out at birth and there is a strong family history of prominent ears. This is because one third of prominent ears do not occur until the child is three months old. The splints can be easily fitted by the parent or carer and offer an effective 'DIY' solution to ear deformities.
Available through the Ear BuddiesTM website, the kits come with a variety of attractive hats to hide the splints from prying eyes!
