Lancet study shows importance of daily exercise to lifetime health.

Children need more exercise

A recent study in the Lancet of over 1,730 children aged either 9 or 15 in schools in Denmark, Estonia and Portugal monitored their daily physical activity and related this to know heart disease risk factors.

These factors include blood pressure, weight and cholesterol levels. The study found that the lowest risk scores were in 9 year olds who did 116 minutes of exercise each day and in 15 year olds who did around 90 minutes each day.

The Department of Health said it would consider whether its guidelines needed to be reviewed following the study.
