Hair dyes cause cancer fear!
An EU Scientific Committee has advised that 22 chemical products should be withdrawn by Dec 1st, because the dyes that they contain show a posssible risk of bladder cancer after long-term use. It has been know for many years that people working in the dye production business, especially those working with 'aniline-dyes' were at a hugely increased risk of getting bladder cancer, so much so that these workers were frequently screened, by their employers, to eliminate the early signs of bladder cancer. If hair dyes have been found to contain aniline-type dyes or their chemical relatives, then there may be an increased risk of bladder cancer in long term users of those hair dyes. This could be the first step towards plans to create a list of all hair dye chemicals considered safe for human health.
The EU commission says that more than 60% of women and upto 10% of men colour their hair, colouring their hair 6-8 times a year!
